Water Main Flushing Continues

The City of Gig Harbor continues its twice-yearly water main flushing program.

The program proactively “flushes” or cleans water mains to remove mineral buildup of iron and manganese that cause water discoloration. These minerals naturally occur and are found in the underground aquifers from which the city draws its water. These minerals are considered “secondary contaminates” by the Department of Health and are not a health hazard.

Informational A-boards will be placed in your neighborhood providing you with advance notice of our flushing efforts. Follow us on Facebook for specific locations to be announced each Monday.

You may notice a discoloration in your water following this flushing process; this is common, expected, and should clear up quickly. Learn more about this program by visiting our website.
