Shoreline Master Program Amendment – Public Art Regulation
The City’s Public Works Department proposes an amendment to the Shoreline Master Program (SMP) allowing for a regulation regarding public art within the City’s shoreline jurisdiction. The amendment will be reviewed for consistency with the WA State Shoreline Management Act, the City’s adopted Comprehensive Plan and Shoreline Management Program. The City has chosen to utilize the Optional Joint Review Process authorized under WAC 173-26-104. The joint review process consolidates the local and state public comment periods, expediting the review process. For more information on the optional joint review process, see the WA State Department of Ecology’s Shoreline Master Program Guidance for Local Government.
The Optional Joint Review Process required a 30-day public comment period prior to a public hearing on the amendment. This comment period was noticed in accordance with WA State law.
The City’s Planning Commission studied the amendment and held a public hearing on May 6, 2021. The Planning Commission will make a recommendation to the Gig Harbor City Council which will then hold its own public hearing and decide on the amendment. The City Council hearing is scheduled for June 14th, 2021. Please see the City Calendar for details.
