CITY ADDS SOLICITORS TO PEDDLERS LICENSE PROCESS
Solicitors and peddlers are required to first obtain a city license before going door to door or place to place.
The city has updated its business licensing code and adopted an application process for persons who go from place to place or house to house, offering for sale goods, merchandise, or services of any type, or are seeking to obtain gifts, donations, or contributions of money, clothing, or other valuable things. Peddling or Soliciting does not include place to place religious or political activity, promotion, or distribution of such materials. It also does not include when a person is acting as a member of a charitable organization under Chapter 19.09 RCW, or a federal, state, or local governmental entity.
Persons engaged in this type of sale or solicitation are required to apply for a peddlers / solicitors license. The person selling or soliciting is required to wear a photo badge issued by the city after an approval process that includes a background check.
If you plan on selling or soliciting door to door or place to place in the City of Gig Harbor, please submit the application form, two passport photos, and the fee of $50.00 to the city. The approval process takes five days and the license is valid for 90 days from issue.
A licensed peddler / solicitor may sell between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Citizens who do not wish to have peddlers or solicitors engage them should prominently display a "No Peddlers" or "No Solicitors" or "No Trespassing" sign on their property.
