MUNICIPAL COURT - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I received a
traffic ticket for failure to provide proof of insurance. I was
insured at the time of the traffic stop, but did not have my
insurance card with me. Do I have to pay the full amount of the
fine?
If you present proof of
insurance to the court clerk in effect at the time of the stop
and for the vehicle you were
driving within 15 days of the violation, your
infraction can be dismissed upon payment of a $25 insurance
administrative fee. If you were driving someone else’s vehicle,
file a statement from your insurance company that you were
covered in that vehicle.
I received a traffic ticket for failure to provide proof of
insurance. I was NOT insured at the time of the traffic stop, but
I now have insurance. Do I have to pay the full amount of the
fine?
You will need to request a
hearing and present your proof of insurance at this hearing.
I do not live in Gig Harbor. Can I pay my ticket at another court
closer to my home?
No. The name and address of the
court of jurisdiction is printed on the lower portion of the
ticket. Your ticket can only be handled at this court.
I received a delinquent letter from the court, after returning the
green copy of the ticket requesting a hearing. What does this mean?
The court did not receive your
hearing request within 15 days, or not at all.
There are two violations on my ticket (infraction). I would like to
pay one and request a hearing on the other. Can I do this?
No. You must either pay the
full amount of the ticket or request a hearing within 15 days on
both violations.
