Personal Information:  Born in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1976 and moved to Gig Harbor in 1985 at the age of nine. Attended elementary, middle school, and high school in the Peninsula School District until graduating in 1994 from Gig Harbor High School.

Community Involvement: Gig Harbor City Council, Gig Harbor High School Assistant Debate Coach, Pierce County Regional Council, Puget Sound Regional Council, Association of Washington Cities. Derek also chairs the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.
