Ringing in the Salmon

The bell was created by Tom Torrens and Ben Isitt and placed at Donkey Creek Park as part of the City's Public Art Program. The project was facilitated by the Arts Commission in 2008. A Ribbon Cutting event was held in August of 2009.

History

Since 1972, the Gig Harbor Commercial Fishermen's Club has incubated salmon eggs at Donkey Creek, releasing over 1 million fry into Gig Harbor Bay each year. Every fall, mature salmon find their way from the open sea back through Austin Estuary into Donkey Creek to spawn. The "Ringing In The Salmon" sculpture celebrates this annual cycle and, through art, promotes the preservation of our salmon and watersheds.
