The Gig Harbor City Council consists of seven part-time, nonpartisan members elected at-large to serve four-year terms.
The City of Gig Harbor is a code city with a strong Mayor form of Government. The City Council is responsible for enacting all legislation and making general policy decisions governing the City.
The City of Gig Harbor leads the way in livability, environmental stewardship, economic vitality, and municipal services.
The City Council has adopted a Two-Year Strategic Plan for 2022-23 designed to provide Council and the City’s residents with a high-level view of the priorities and goals of the City Council.

The City Council meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. These regular Monday evening meetings are held in-person in Council Chambers but may also be accessed remotely on Zoom. Public comment is taken at these meetings, both in-person and via Zoom by following the procedures printed on each meeting's agenda.
In addition, the City Council also holds study sessions to discuss matters before taking final action at a regular meeting. Study Sessions are typically held at 2:00 p.m. on the Thursdays immediately following the regular Monday meetings. These meetings are held on Zoom only.

The City of Gig Harbor maintains minutes of the official proceedings in which city business is conducted. The recordings and action minutes are posted and available to the public as soon as possible.
